What you should expect
A diabetic foot assessment involves a vascular and neurological assessment. The biomechanics status is also assessed during this appointment.

The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence guidelines recommend people with diagnosed diabetes having a diabetic foot assessment annually to assess the risk of developing a foot problem.
​​
You will be told during this appointment whether you are low, moderate or high risk.
You will also be given in depth patient information on foot care and what to look out for/when to get help.

What are the risk factors assessed?

neuropathy (use a 10 g monofilament as part of a foot sensory examination)

limb ischaemia (see the NICE guideline on peripheral arterial disease)

ulceration

callus
-
infection and/or inflammation
-
deformity
-
gangrene
-
Charcot arthropathy.
